‘Resolve’ to Walk with GOD This Year

The holidays — particularly The New Year — are a great time to reflect on the previous year and make plans for the new one. Often, we see people making resolutions and goals for what they would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.

Some people will not let a year pass without making new resolutions, while others despise the process entirely. But, there is value in assessing our current state and planning for the future. Those plans may fall into one’s personal or professional life, but whichever category our goals fall into, we can go to GOD for help in completing them.

  • To pray and study my Bible daily

  • To exercise more — walking, running, etc.

  • To eat healthier

  • To get a promotion at work

  • To start a business

These are a few examples of what our list of New Year’s Resolutions could look like, but let us remember that only what we do for CHRIST will last.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) tells us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the LORD as a reward. It is the LORD CHRIST you are serving.”

Then, our true and ongoing challenge as we face the New Year (and every year) is:

To walk closer to the Lord, living by His Word each day.

As you walk to get in shape physically, remember to walk with Him spiritually. Perhaps, our list of Resolutions should look more like this:

  • Deuteronomy 5:33 (NIV) “Walk in all the way that the LORD your GOD has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.”

  • Micah 6:8 (NIV) “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your GOD.”

  • Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) “For we are His workmanship, created in CHRIST JESUS for good works, which GOD prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

  • Colossians 2:6 (NIV) “So then, just as you received CHRIST JESUS as LORD, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

GOD’s Word is filled with reminders on how we should “walk” in His Word. Others can be found in Romans 13:13, Galatians 5:16, Isaiah 30:21, and Romans 6:4.

In 2022 and every year of our lives, let us resolve to walk with The LORD.

Be blessed.
