2024 Walter V. Person Scholarship Recipient

Caitlyn is the daughter of Charles and Crystal Wilson, Sr. and the proud granddaughter of Mary Wilson and Earl Smith and Raymond and the late Mable Louise Currie.

She is a graduate of Collierville High School, where she successfully maintained a 3.6 GPA in a graduating class of 700 scholars. Her school colors are maroon, black, white, and gray. She graduated from Collierville High on May 10, 2024.

Caitlyn’s extracurricular activities include playing on the varsity basketball team as Senior Captain, running on the varsity track and field team, where she was selected as a Sectional Qualifier during the 2023 season, and exercising her creative gifts as a member of the National Honor Society (NAHS). 

Her drive, patience, and leadership to motivate her teammates earned her several honors of achievement, including: 

  • Sixth Man Award

  • Defensive Player of the Year

  • All-District Honorable Mention

  • Scholastic Gold Key

  • Delta Fair Best in Show

In addition to the the aforementioned, Caitlyn also participated in the National Art Honor Society’s Drama Department, creating and painting the sets for their plays. 

Caitlyn attends St. John Missionary Baptist Church at the corner of Pendleton and Barron in Memphis, Tennessee. Her church participation includes former Youth Sunday School Secretary, a member of Sunday School Class #2, and Youth Usher.

Following graduation, Caitlyn plans to continue her academic and athletic journey at a four-year college. Her choices are Arlington Baptist University, Spalding University, Blue Mountain Christian University, and Lincoln Memorial University. 

She plans to major in Art Education and pursue a career as an elementary / secondary art educator. 

Caitlyn’s words of wisdom are “Prove it to yourself, rather than to everyone else.”
