‘Great Commission’ Continues at St. John Through Pandemic

St. Matthew 28:18-20

The spread of novel coronavirus worldwide has forced modern-day disciples to find new ways of spreading the Gospel. The St. John Missionary Baptist Church family, like many churches nationwide, has turned to social media to reach “all nations.”

After JESUS’ Resurrection and before His ascension, HE charged His disciples with what is known as “The Great Commission.”

HE said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (St. Matthew 28:18-20, NIV)

St. John is carrying out this charge on social media – Facebook, YouTube and Twitter! Follow us or Subscribe today!

“Our live broadcasts are reaching people I went to college with,” Pastor Delaney observed. “People have contacted me as far as New York and California, some, asking how to give. Without social media we would not be able to reach them consistently because they are not coming to Memphis anytime soon.”

The Church chose each social media platform to serve a different purpose. St. John’s official Facebook page has quickly become a go-to place for Church announcements and updates, along with a gathering space for Sunday School, Bible Study and Sunday Morning Worship livestreams. Sunday services are also streamed on the Church’s YouTube channel, and Twitter will offer “Daily Word” nuggets of inspiration and information.

“Because of the impact we’re seeing, we would like to continue live-streaming Worship Services, even after the COVID-19 pandemic ends,” said Sis. Bettie Norfleet, head of St. John Trustees. “We want to continue to build and grow!”
